My Nanna's 80th Birthday Cake
As much as I love making more modern and quirky looking cakes, this is the one
I am most excited about having had the opportunity to make.
I wanted to do something extra special for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday this year.
For as long as I can remember my Nanna has had the most stunning floral gardens,
so I wanted to represent her love and passion for flowers on a cake.
When I embarked on making these flowers which was a first for me,
I was fortunate enough to recieve some private tuition on flower making from a
local Cake Decorator (Emma of Sugar and Slice Cakes in Canberra).
I am extremely grateful that I got this opportunity as it has been invaluable for my learning.
This is the first cake decorating class I have ever attended and Emma was a fantastic teacher.
Needless to say I am now completely hooked on making flowers and hope to learn even more in the future.
The flowers featuring in this cake include Peony's, Gardenia's, Hydrangeas, Rununculis, Blossoms,
Filler Flowers and Buds. The Cake is a Chocolate Mud Cake.
We had a small family celebration at the Hyatt Hotel and got to indulge in High Tea
and the cake took centre stage at our table.
My Nanna was taken back by the cake and all those guests in surrounding tables
kept asking if the flowers were real.
That is the best compliment one could recieve.
Below is a taste of some of the lovely food we were presented with at the
Hyatt Hotel in Canberra for High Tea. Yum! Yum!
This is my lovely Nanna
Happy 80th Birthday Diane.
How very lovely indeed! Those flowers are really a labour of love.
